“Oakland Automobile Auto History”

The Oakland Motor Car Company began in 1907 in Pontiac Michigan . Oakland operated with some success for two years with sales of about 5,000 automobiles per year .

In 1909 Oakland was bought by William Durant and became part of General Motors . 1916 Oakland was available with a V8 engine . Oakland was sold as a sub-mid-luxury automobile just below , Oldsmobile and Buick which were GM’s mid-luxury models . In 1926 Oakland introduced their Pontiac Model . The sales of Pontiac were so much better than the other Oakland models that in 1931 the Oakland name was dropped and the Oakland Division of General Motors became the Pontiac Division of GM .
