Mercury Automobile - History
The Mercury division of Ford Motor Company was founded by Edsel Ford (Henry’s son) in 1939 as mid-luxury automobiles to fill the market between Ford models and Lincoln models and compete with Buick Oldsmobile and Chrysler models .
In 1945 Lincoln and Mercury divisions of Ford Motor Company were combined to form “Lincoln Mercury” .
In 1950 Edsel became part of the Lincoln Mercury division but in 1960 Edsel , was discontinued . Mercury is still a big part of Ford Motor Company today .
