Mason-Maytag Motor Company was founded by Fred and August Duesenberg with the encouragement and financial support from Edward Mason and Fredrick Maytag (of Maytag appliances) in 1906 . Mason approached the Duesenberg brothers to build his cars and also invited Maytag to a financial partnership . As Mason and Maytag were not experienced in automotive industry sales , the company was not very successful and in 1915 after heavy loses the company went out of business . It is said that Fredrick Maytag’s loses alone , were over 300,000 dollars .
