In 1953 the Willys-Overland Corporation was acquired by Kaiser and the company was renamed Kaiser-Jeep . Kaiser built a model called the “Allstate” that was advertised in the Sears Catalog , but the car could not be purchased by mail order from Sears ! A small car called the “Henry J” was introduced by Kaiser in 1950 . In the fall of 1953 Kaiser introduced the first fiberglass body car . It was the 1954 model Kaiser “Darrin” . It was a two seat model with doors that slid ahead into the front fenders to open . Only 435 were ever manufactured , which would makes them a real collectors item today .

Kaiser models cars ended production in 1955 but Jeep Models continued . In 1970 American Motors bought Kaiser-Jeep and renamed that division AM General . Am General manufactures the Hummer . American Motors was bought by Chrysler Corporation in 1987 and Jeep is still a part of Chrysler today . Hummer was acquired by General Motors
