Chevrolet Louis

Louis Chevrolet was born in Switzerland in 1878 and moved to France in 1886 were he took an interest in mechanics and even more so in auto racing . From 1895 to 1899 he worked as a mechanic . In 1900 Louis moved to Montreal Quebec , in Canada were worked for one year . He than went to work for Fiat in New York City USA . He later were to work at Buick were William Durant was CEO of the company . Louis Chevrolet did some race car driving in Buick’s to permote their products . In 1909 in his own machine shop , Louis Chevrolet designed and built his own automobile with a 6 cylinder over head valve engine .

William Durant was terminated from Buick . Durant convinced Louis Chevrolet to form a partnership and together they opened the Chevrolet Motor Company in 1911 . In 1915 Louis Chevrolet sold his shares of The Chevrolet Motor Company to William Durant . Durant went on to have enormous success with the company ! In 1916 Louis Chevrolet and his brother Gaston , started the Frontenac Motor Company and built Fronty-Ford race cars . Louis Chevrolet raced in the Indianapolis 500 in 1915 ,1916 ,1919 and 1920 . His best finish was 7th in 1919 .

Louis was totally broke when he passed on .
