American Underslung automobiles began production in 1906 in Indianapolis Indiana . The frame of these automobiles was mounted under the axles to give it a lower center of gravity to allow superior handling .
The American Motor Car Company , automobiles were designed by Harry Stutz (later of Stutz Automobiles) in 1905 and designed the Underslung feature . Stutz left the company in 1906 . Fred Tone altered the chassis by mounting the frame of the vehicle below the axles and the as per Stutz design and the Underslung models were born .
The Underslung was a high priced luxury sports car of its time .
In 1911 due to financial difficulties the company was reorganized and the name became American Motor Company .
Underslung introduced an electric starter and electric lights on the 1913 models . 1914 models were introduced early 1913 , but American Motor Company went into receivership in late 1913 and production was ended .
