A cooling system flush service should be done on all vehicles every 2 or 3 years to prevent acid build up in the cooling system . This service will prevent contamination from causing premature failure of cooling system parts such as , the radiator , water pump , the heater core and the radiator and heater hoses and will greatly lengthen the life of these parts . A cooling system flush service will also prevent corrosion , rust and debris from blocking the coolant passages in the engine block and heads . (if the passages in the blocked or the radiator get blocked overheating will result) .
On a Cooling System Flush Service , the system should be tested for leaks . Then a cleaning solution is put into the cooling system and the engine is run to allow this solution to circulate through the complete system . The cooling system is than drained and all the old coolant as well as all the acid , corrosion , rust and debris are removed .
New clean coolant is installed in the system and often a conditioning additive also installed . The vehicle is run up to temperature to insure the system is operating properly . The system is then pressure tested again to insure that there are no leaks . The coolant strength is also tested to insure proper protection against cold weather as well as excessively hot weather were applicable .
Proper maintenance of the cooling system will prolong the life of related parts which will save you money . It will also help to maintain you comfort with proper heat from the heater in cold weather .
