Buick Automobile - History

Buick Manufacturing Company was founded in may of 1902 by David Buick . In 1903 the company was became the Buick Motor Company . The Buick Motor Company was sold to James Whiting in 1903 and William Durant was hired to manage the company . Buick sold only 37 automobiles before hiring William Durant , but Durant sold over 1100 Buick’s at the New York Auto Show OF 1904 . The Buick Motor Company would eventually become the first part of the General Motors Corporation . David Buick was credited as the inventor of the “overhead valve” engine .
Buick became the largest selling automobile in USA for the very early 1900’s time period .
In 1907 William Durant made an alliance with Samuel McLaughlin to supply engines and chassis for the McLaughlin Motor Car Company in Oshawa Ontario (Canada) . McLaughlin automobiles eventually became named “McLaughlin-Buick” automobiles . McLaughlin was bought by GM and eventually became General Motors of Canada . William Durant formed a holding company , called

General Motors Corporation in 1908 for his Buick Motor Company . Buick became the mid-luxury car division of General Motors and still is to date . 
Buick division of General Motors began manufacturing , Saturn in 1985 to eventually replace the Oldsmobile line of automobiles .

Buick is in the plans as a big part of General Motors in the Future .
