Recalls by P. B. Gill
There are many things involved in vehicle recalls .
In the manufacturers of vehicles , for sale , in north America , and the rest of the world , there are government regulations that vehicles must meet , before it can be sold , for use on the road . Any recall would be subject to the same government regulations , and approval . These regulations are mainly to insure that the safety and the value of the vehicle are maintained or improved by the recall , but never decreased .
The main reasons for recalls are , safety , vehicle improvement , and sales promotion . The main objective of recalls , is to target customer satisfaction with the product . It most cases recalls do exactly that . Most owners that I have talked to feel that , when a recall is done on their vehicle , at no cost to them , the manufacturer is looking after the vehicle they bought .
Most commonly , recalls are on new models , after they have been on the road a short while . The engineers have been able to evaluate the over all performance of the vehicle and its all its systems . Customer satisfaction of the vehicle has also been evaluated .
Records of warranty claims , customer concerns , and continued manufacturer testing and , are taken into consideration , when a recall is issued . In some cases government testing could be involved in safety recalls .
Safety recalls are issued by the manufactures if they find there is a possible concern with any thing on the vehicle that could be a hazard to the safety and well being of the driver and passengers of that vehicle . These recalls would be on things such as , brakes , steering , suspension , wheels and tires . Etc .
Improvement recalls would be on any part of the vehicle , not relative to safety . These recalls are issued when the manufacturer finds that , a part on a vehicle , has not performed as it was designed to , or has an abnormal failure rate under operating conditions . These recalls are issued to rectify or eliminate those conditions , before they become an expense to the customer . Good customer relations , is good for re-sales of their product .
All recalls do require that the vehicle be returned to the dealer for the recall to be performed . In most cases , the customer will bring the vehicle to the dealer in person . The customer in many cases will go to the show room , and look around , while waiting for the recall to be done . How many sale are made to these customers ? This is the sales promotion part of the recall ideal . In some cases , when there have been recalls on older vehicles , the main objective was to get the customer into the show room to look around and see what is new .
Many times a vehicle is labeled badly , because of a recall .
For the most part , recalls on vehicles are Good things , not bad .
If a manufacturer issues a recalls on a vehicle because of a miss in design feature , of a part , they are owning up to their customers and rectifying that condition .
Recalls save the customer the expense of that particular repair , if the vehicle is past its warranty period .
If you receive a recall notice for your vehicle , get it done . It could , be a safety issue , and if not , it is a money saver , down the road , and they are at no charge to you .
As far as the sales promotion part of the recall is concerned , it does not hurt to look around , from time to time . This helps to keep you up to date , new vehicles , which is to your advantage when you are ready to deal .
